Nigel Farage has claimed that Britain was the actual loser in World War II.

Speaking on Nick Clegg’s Anger Management podcast, the former Ukip leader claimed Britain was the ‘one country’ that lost out from the conflict.

He told the former Lib Dem leader: ‘In 1945, one country lost World War II, and it was us. We were the losers.

‘We were the ones who lost everything. We were bankrupted. Our big imperial possessions started to disappear.

‘We had a massive crisis of confidence as a nation that went on all through the 50s, 60s, 70s.’

Mr Clegg went on to ask Mr Farage if he thought the past was ‘better’ that the modern world.

Mr Farage, who spearheaded the campaign for Britain to leave the EU, responded: ‘No actually, I’m very bullish about Britain as it is right now.

‘Yeah, we’ve got our problems, we’ve got our divisions. We’ve always had them.

‘But I actually think that there is a great feeling. A great national spirit out there. We’ve changed.’

Mr Farage also admitted on the podcast that two of his four children hold both British and German passports.
