An upcoming untitled Star Wars movie has had a disappointing update, as it has lost both
its screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.

It was reported back in October that Lucasfilm had hired Watchmen creator Lindelof and the mastermind behind Lost Britt-Gibson to collaborate on a project that would be directed by Ms. Marvel's Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

While Obaid-Chinoy is still onboard, both writers have left the film with no confirmed replacement yet, according to Deadline.

However, all hope is not lost. It seems the film has not been cancelled and that Lucasfilm will release more details about the top-secret endeavour at the Star Wars Celebration in London next month.

Lindelof hinted that he might take a step back from the franchise earlier this month, but did not disclose any details.

"I will just say, that for reasons that I can’t get into on this Sunday morning, on this day, the degree of difficulty is extremely, extremely, extremely high," he told Slashfilm.

"If [the film] can’t be great, it shouldn’t exist. That's all I’ll say, because I have the same association with [Star Wars] as you do, which is, it’s the first movie I saw sitting in my dad's lap, four years old, May of '77.

"I think it's possible that sometimes when you hold something in such high reverence and esteem, you start to get in the kitchen and you just go, 'Maybe I shouldn’t be cooking. Maybe I should just be eating.' We’ll just leave it at that point," he added.

Meanwhile, Daisy Ridley has addressed the possibility of returning to her role as Rey in the franchise, after her last appearance in The Rise of Skywalker back in 2019.

Speaking to IMDb at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, Jones teased: "I mean, I’m open to a phone call – I am looking for employment."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
