Loud Sound Rattles Upstate New York

A loud sound described as a “boom” rattled part of upstate New York on Wednesday, December 2, with local media saying the sound was “likely” a sonic boom caused by a meteor.

In this footage posted by Lacey Martino, taken in Clay, New York, at 12.11 pm, a loud sound can be heard from 1 second through 4 seconds in the video.

Robert Lunsford, of the American Meteor Society, told syracuse.com “loud, far-reaching booms happen when meteors rip through the atmosphere.” He said there were reports of a fireball spotted across Canada, New York, and Maryland. Credit: Lacey Martino via Storyful
