Love Island's Dr Alex George 'emotional' to receive coronavirus vaccine

Love Island star Dr Alex George has said he felt "emotional" when receiving the coronavirus vaccine.

George, who works at University Hospital Lewisham, posted a photo of himself to Instagram on Wednesday doing a thumbs-up alongside the pharmacist who had administered the jab.

"I HAVE HAD THE VACCINE!! We have all been hoping for a vaccine ever since this virus appeared. Felt quite emotional having the jab, it has been a hard year! I am so glad there is light at the end of the tunnel.

"Huge thanks to Chris, one of the hospital pharmacists, for giving me the injection and to everyone working so hard to roll this out. It was a quick jab then back to work for me! Full disclosure I was given a star sticker for having the vaccine and being a good boy 🤪 Onwards 💙," the 30-year-old said.

George currently works in the hospital's A&E department but announced last year that 2021 would see him take up a new role as he intends to begin GP training.

He's one of a number of famous faces who have publicly spoken about receiving the vaccine, which is administered in two doses.

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis, Bake Off's Prue Leith and Sir Ian McKellen are among the stars who shared their experiences.

Last week ahead of England entering a third national lockdown, George said the situation at his hospital had worsened again.

Alongside a picture of himself in PPE gear, he said: "Guys things are pretty rough at the moment. I would say at least as bad as March in the hospital. We need to brace ourselves over the next few months and make sure we are each doing our bit.

"We will get through it but at the moment it’s time for us all to focus and do our best to control the spread. Big thanks to everyone as always, this isn’t easy but we will beat this virus and navigate to better times."
