Lucasfilm has denied reports that it is to shelve its planned spin-off movies.

Speaking to the Disney-affiliated ABC News, sources at the studio said that the report, which came from movie site Collider, is ‘inaccurate’.

The source apparently added that there are ‘multiple’ Star Wars movies in the pipeline that are yet to be announced, and that these will be separate from the announced trilogy which will begin after Star Wars IX, and also separate from the movies being developed by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

However, the studio did not confirm which projects these might be; whether the rumoured Boba Fett spin-off with Logan helmsman James Mangold, or the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie reportedly being worked up by Stephen Daldry.

Nonetheless, the spin-off movies have provided something of a headache for the studio.

Rogue One, though it ended up bringing in just over $1 billion at the box office, needed extensive re-shoots before it was brought to the screen.

And meanwhile, Solo: A Star Wars Story, the origin tale of Han Solo, has done seriously disappointing business at the box office.

Over its four weeks on release, it’s made just over $340 million worldwide, and is already showing signs that it won’t bring in much more, with Disney likely bracing itself to make a loss, a scenario previously unheard of in the Star Wars universe.

Solo was fraught with drama too, with original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord being sacked part way through production, and Ron Howard taking over, re-shooting a substantial amount of footage.
