Lupita Nyong’o Yet To Film Star Wars 8 Scenes

It looks as though ‘Star Wars 8’ isn’t done just yet.

Although production has already wrapped on the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ sequel, it looks as though Maz Kanata hasn’t been needed on set. At least, not yet. During an interview with Collider, ‘Star Wars 8’ actress Lupita Nyong’o revealed that she hasn’t yet filmed her scenes.

“Rian! I haven’t worked with him yet,” she said. “I’ve yet to shoot. That’s in my future.”

And that may come as a bit of a surprise.

Back in April, ‘Star Wars 8’ director Rian Johnson revealed some of the first photos from the ‘Star Wars’ set… and that included a picture of what many assumed to be Lupita Nyong’o back in the role of Maz Manata.

Of course, that doesn’t mean it was actually her on set - the picture was revealed without any explanation. And her most recent comments suggest that perhaps the ‘Star Wars’ director had used someone else to fill in for Lupita during principal photography.

But then there was that photo of Lupita and Luke Skywalker…

So what gives?

Although Lupita was certainly meeting up with the ‘Star Wars 8’ cast while they were filming, it could have been for a costume fitting, script reading or any number of other production duties.

As we know from ‘The Force Awakens’, a lot of Lupita’s scenes were shot during reshoots… and considering the CGI nature of her character, that makes a lot of sense. After all, they’ll probably want to get that part finished last, after the live-action bits have been nailed down.

Still, at least they have 15 months to get it all right.

‘Star Wars 8’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
