Christmas hampers have been a festive staple ever since we can remember.

There’s something immeasurably magical about opening up a wicker basket to find all manner of (often edible) goodies inside.

From bottles of mulled wine to mince pies and all sorts of new brands and flavours to discover, a perfectly-packed hamper is a thing of beauty.

This year, with loved ones scattered across the country and many unable to join family members for the festivities, sending a gorgeous hamper is all the more poignant.

But what about a £1,000 hamper?

If you really want to push the boat out this year, then we’ve found three retailers that have put together luxury hampers fit for royalty. Here’s what to expect from each.

Christmas Treasure Chest Hamper | £1,000 from John Lewis

Included in this offering is a Christmas pudding, pheasant and venison pate, panettone and a 2kg decorated milk chocolate Christmas tree.

There is also two bottles of Bollinger Champagne, a box of luxury crackers, a bottle of whisky and port in the hamper filled with 39 foodie products.

The upmarket retailer does also offer a range of cheaper options, starting from £20.

Collection Berkeley Luxury Christmas Hamper | £999.99 from Marks & Spencer

The store's Collection Berkeley Luxury Christmas Hamper is now available at a cost of £999.99 – one of M&S’ most expensive gifts yet.

Included in the basket are 16 different bottles of alcohol, a selection of cakes, biscuits and other treats as well as sauces and dressings - so you won’t be going hungry, or thirsty, for a while.

Favourites include Tawny port, coffee vodka, chocolate, cranberry and orange panettone and all butter parmesan and chilli shortbread biscuits.

The Christmas Feast Hamper | £1,000 from Fortnum & Mason

Synonymous with luxury, it’s no surprise to find Fortnum & Mason’s (rumoured to be the Queen’s favourite store) on the list. In fact, to regular F&M shoppers, a thousand pound hamper might feel like a drop in the ocean.

To the rest of us though, it’s a rather dear investment and so we’ve had a rummage around inside to see what you get for your money.

Packed full of 30 items from the festive shelves of the iconic store, shoppers can expect to find Fortnum’s vintage champagne, made by famed winemaker Louis Roederer - the perfect festive tipple - especially when paired with the Scottish Smoked Salmon included.

Not to mention the cheeseboard with Waxed Cheddar Truckle and Traditional Stilton Jar alongside Jamboree Olives in Oil, Truffle Nuts, Fig & Almond Foie Gras, as well as all sorts of other high-end goodies.

Oh, and a whole Christmas ham for good measure!
