'Lying and Stealing' stars Theo James and Emily Ratajkowski determine who's the better liar

Theo James and Emily Ratajkowski are teaming up in the upcoming crime drama Lying and Stealing where they’re playing an art thief and an aspiring actress who team up to pull off a heist. But the two actors say that their characters in the suspense-filled movie are more similar to their real selves than people might think.

“An art thief and a young smart aspiring actress who team up together to get themselves out of a big hole they’ve dug themselves and pull off one last heist,” James tells Yahoo Entertainment. “It’s about two independent people who join forces, and there’s a love story, but that’s not the main arc of the movie in a way.”

However, the pair who play the film’s main characters, Ivan and Elyse, explains that the film doesn’t take itself too seriously. Instead, it’s a nod to the classic heist films from back in the day, with a bit of a twist.

“It’s a chess game between them for the whole film,” James says.

Despite their dramatic archetypes, Ratajkowski reflects on how her character actually just depicts a more extreme version of the everyday woman.

“Elyse has a sort of quality of transforming herself and knowing how to manipulate a situation,” she says. “I think women do that, maybe not quite as obviously — they don’t actually put on a wig and all of that — but I like that that was showcased.”

Lying and Stealing is available now exclusively on DIRECTV and in theaters July 12th.
