YouTube user Joosch Heinzer happened to be in the right place at the right time when he stumbled across filming for the post-apocalyptic reboot in Namibia.

George Miller’s return to the cult Aussie action series, which launched the career of Mel Gibson, has been gathering a serious amount of attention - particularly when an image of a dusty Tom Hardy as the iconic Max Rockatansky appeared online last month.

But this video is the first time we’ve seen the insane engines – such a hallmark of the original - in action.

Miller himself described the plot of the project thus: “Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa (played by Charlize theron). This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.”

Shooting almost 34 years after the 1979 original, and 28 year after the last installment ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’, ‘Fury Road’ is believed to be a prequel to Miller’s series. It’s also been reported that Gibson will make an undisclosed cameo appearance.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, starring Hardy, Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, is due sometime in 2014.
