Mads Mikkelsen Playing Main Villain In Doctor Strange

‘Doctor Strange’ has revealed its main villain… and it’s not who we thought.

“Mads is playing our main villain,” said executive producer Stephen Broussard.

Of course, Benedict Cumberbatch will play the titular Doctor Strange with Tilda Swinton as his mentor, The Ancient One.

And Marvel boss Kevin Feige gives us an idea of what Doctor Strange’s role will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…

“We will take audiences through sort of a guide to the multiverse, other dimensions, and there are amazing things out there — wonders that are going to be hopefully visually extremely interesting and unique to this movie,” he said. “But there are also very scary things in these other dimensions.”

According to Feige, it’s the likes of Doctor Strange and The Ancient One who are tasked with protecting humanity from these ‘very scary things’.

And he couldn’t help teasing a little more info about the ‘Doctor Strange’ villain.

“Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect,” he revealed. “[He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”

But who is Mads Mikkelsen playing?

Unfortunately, while Feige and Broussard were happy to tease some new info about the new Marvel villain, it looks as though the character’s name is off limits. At least, for now.

“I’ve seen lots of names thrown around,” said Broussard. “No one has quite picked the name that we’ve chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can.”

Many fans assumed that Baron Mordo would be the main villain for Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ with other fan favourites such as Dormammu and Mephisto topping the list of comic book baddies they’d like to see on the big screen.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Doctor Strange’ heads to cinemas on 28 October 2016.
