Mads Mikkelsen Teases Star Wars: Rogue One Character Name

Although little is known about ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’, it looks as though we may have our first detail about Mads Mikkelsen’s character… and it’s quite a name.

According to RebelForce Radio, the 49-year-old ‘Star Wars’ actor was recently signing autographs for fans… when he let slip his name in ‘Rogue One’.

“Actor Mads Mikkelsen revealed the name of his ‘Rogue One’ character in this signature to RFR listener J.J. Good,” they revealed. “Does Galen ring any bells?”

Signing an unknown piece of ‘Star Wars’ memorabilia along with other notable names from the galaxy far, far away, it looks as though Mikkelsen may have given us our first hint about who he’s playing.

And ‘Star Wars’ fans might recognise that name…

Appearing in the videogame ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’, we were introduced to Darth Vader’s secret apprentice – Galen Marek. A powerful Force user born from two former-Jedi parents, Galen was abducted by Vader and turned to the Dark Side.

But will Mads Mikkelsen be playing this controversial character?

I can’t help thinking that’s highly unlikely – after all, the videogame was released back in 2008 as a means of bridging the two ‘Star Wars’ trilogies… and this was long before Disney had acquired the franchise.

That said, it would take place around roughly the same time as ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ and even served as an origin story for the Rebel Alliance before Disney decided to can the ‘Star Wars’ Expanded Universe.

And it wouldn’t be the first time the character has been referenced in the new films, either – after all, Galen Marek took the mantle of Starkiller, which has recently been used as the name for a new super-weapon and base of evil operations in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

But could ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ feature Galen Marek?

I can’t help thinking that this is little more than a knowing nod to fans of ‘The Force Unleashed’. After all, there’s no mention of the character’s surname as yet, and Mikkelsen himself has already confirmed that he won’t be playing an antagonist.

But could Galen prove to be integral to the foundation of the Rebel Alliance like his namesake? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
