The first reviews are in for the third Magic Mike film, and it's proven to be a mixed bag.

Magic Mike's Last Dance, the sequel to 2015's Magic Mike XXL, is coming to cinemas on Friday, February 10.

The latest instalment sees Channing Tatum reprise the role of "Magic" Mike Lane, who's now broke and bartending in Florida following a business deal that went sour. When wealthy socialite Maxandra "Max" Mendoza (Salma Hayek Pinault) gives Mike an irresistible offer, Mike jets to London and takes the stage for one last hurrah.

However, it isn't long before Mike gets roped into whipping a new line-up of dancers into shape.

As well as Tatum, Magic Mike's Last Dance features an all-star cast including Matthew McConaughey, Caitlin Gerard, Alex Pettyfer, and Juliette Motamed.

Despite all the glitz and glamour the Magic Mike 3 trailer promises, the film has received mixed reviews ahead of its release.

The Los Angeles Times' Justin Chang described the film as "a sweetly romantic sequel [that] doesn’t quite stick the landing". Chang also criticised the absence of Tatum's original Magic Mike co-stars.

However, IndieWire's Jude Dry wrote that Magic Mike's Last Dance is "a properly silly climax" for the franchise that "hits the spot for lovers of dance — and men". Dry praised the chemistry between Hayek Pinault and Tatum, particularly during "the most epic private dance ever".

On the other hand, Vulture film critic Alison Willmore criticised the introduction of a love story between Max and Mike.

"Mike is the holy hunk, and his own desires feel incidental — tough stuff when you’re supposed to be showing a grand passion," Willmore wrote.

GamesRadar+ critic Kate Stables labeled the film "a glossy but fluffy threequel" and gave it three out of five stars.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly's Leah Greenblatt wrote that Magic Mike's Last Dance is "missing a lot", but "has the moves you mostly came for — and in its final strobe-lit moments, the full release of a Hollywood ending".
