A 90-year-old man was knocked to the floor and stabbed in the neck as his house was burgled, police have said.

The elderly victim was at his home in Lancashire when the offender, wearing a ski-mask, came in demanding money just before on Tuesday evening.

The burglar punched the pensioner, knocking him to the floor, before stabbing him in the neck and arm.

The 90-year-old then managed to hand his assailant some cash before the intruder fled the scene.

Police were called to the address in the town of Poulton just before 8pm following reports of the attack.

Paramedics took the victim to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment.

Det Sgt Steve Talbott, of Blackpool Police, said: "This was a shocking and violent attack where a pensioner was subjected to a vicious assault.

"Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured but clearly he has been left very shaken and upset.

"We would appeal to anyone with information to come forward. If you saw someone acting suspiciously in the Stanley Avenue area around the time of the offence, please contact police immediately."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting the reference “1582 of August 11”.
