Man charged with attempted murder of suspect in fatal stabbing of mother-of-two in ‘road rage’ attack

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of another man suspected of stabbing a mother-of-two to death.

Police believe the woman, named locally as Levi Davis, 25, may have been killed in a road rage incident.

Jake Dean Swords, 27, of Rushden, was charged with attempted murder on Tuesday morning and is due to appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court.

Another 27-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.

A 13-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of murder was released on Sunday night with no further action to be taken.

Northamptonshire Police said Ms Davis was stabbed following an “altercation” involving the occupants of two vehicles near St George’s Way, Rushden, on Saturday evening.

She was in a Volkswagen Polo that collided with a Vauxhall van before an argument started, police said.

The force said her death is not being treated as a random attack.

Superintendent Dennis Murray confirmed the parties involved in the altercation were believed to be known to each other.

He said: “What we know so far is that at approximately 8.30pm on Saturday two vehicles came to a stop at this location.

“As a result of those vehicles coming to a stop, some sort of altercation took place where our victim has received fatal injuries.

“The victim is a 25-year-old female. We believe she is local to the area. At this location she received an injury involving a knife which has led to her dying at the scene.

“In relation to this, we do know that those two vehicles were involved in some sort of ongoing altercation driving along the road.”

After appealing for witnesses to come forward who saw the black Volkswagen Polo and white Vauxhall van-type vehicle, Mr Murray added: “My understanding from what we know so far is that everybody involved in this incident knew each other.

“I do not believe at this time that this is a random attack but we remain open-minded.”

According to her Facebook page, Ms Davis, a mother-of-two, worked as support staff at Leonard Cheshire Disability and in British Army.

One neighbour described the victim as “amazing”. She said: “She was lovely and didn't deserve this.”
