Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon, as Erik ten Hag is looking to sort out the left-back position, amid an ongoing injury crisis.

United have suffered a poor start to the season when it comes to injuries. While things aren’t going badly on the field, with two wins in three games, the amount of injuries piling up could see the form start to slip.

The left-back position is the most heavily impacted. Luke Shaw just sustained an injury which will keep him sidelined for a while, and Tyrell Malacia was already out; Ten Hag likely doesn’t want to utilise 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez, who is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

As such, the Red Devils are considering an emergency call to Tottenham in order to sign cover. Indeed, the Manchester Evening News reports Spurs left-back Reguilon is one of the men they’re considering moving for.

United are said to want ‘a specialist left-back who is on the market’, and are also assessing Chelsea man Cucurella, who is out of favour, with Ben Chilwell the definitive starter in the position at Stamford Bridge.

Reguilon seemingly fits the bill, having been sent out on loan last season after playing the previous two campaigns with Tottenham, though never really nailing down his place.

That Spurs have been in talks with Real Sociedad over the departure of the left-back suggests they don’t see him as part of the squad going forwards, and that’s reinforced by the fact Ange Postecoglou is yet to allow him onto the pitch this season.

Whether United will move for either of those men remains to be seen. They coped with right-back Diogo Dalot playing on the left-hand side of the defence against Nottingham Forest, but did concede two early goals.

With less than a week left in the transfer window, Ten Hag will have to make a decision quickly on if he wants to bring in a left-back.

To err on the side of safety, it would be presumed he will do so, but it’ll likely only be a short-term deal, as it’s suggested Malacia could return in the next couple of months.
