With awards season in full swing, a number of films are emerging as serious frontrunners and amongst them is Kenneth Lonergan’s moving meditation on grief and family, ‘Manchester By The Sea’.
The film topped a number of “Best of 2016” lists, was nominated for three Golden Globes, and recently earned six BAFTA nominations, so we’re thrilled to be able to share a never-before-seen clip from the film ahead of its UK release on Friday, 13 January.
Watch it above.
Following his Golden Globe Award win for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama on Sunday, the clip sees Casey Affleck’s character Lee attempting to act as a father figure towards his nephew Patrick (BAFTA rising star nominee Lucas Hudges), following the death of Patrick’s father, including a chat about “the birds and the bees”.
Here’s the full synopsis: In the critically acclaimed feature film from writer-director Kenneth Lonergan (‘You Can Count On Me’, ‘Margaret’), Casey Affleck stars as Lee, a man whose sparse existence is suddenly ruptured when the death of his brother Joe (Kyle Chandler) forces him to return to the hometown he abandoned years before. Rocked by contact with his estranged ex-wife (Michelle Williams) and the revelation that Joe has made him guardian of his teenage son (Lucas Hedges), Lee is forced to face up to painful memories and new-found levels of responsibility as he reconnects with his family.
‘Manchester By The Sea’ is in cinemas from Friday, 13 January.
