“She left a pink present with a pink bow, from Barbie to Ken, every day while we were filming. They were all beach-related. Like puka shells, or a sign that says ‘Pray for surf.’ Because Ken’s job is just beach," he went on to explain.

"I’ve never quite figured out what that means. But I felt like she was trying to help Ken understand, through these gifts that she was giving.”

Elsewhere in the new profile, Robbie revealed that she originally planned to include Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot as one of the Barbies in the movie, though the star was unavailable.

"Gal Gadot is Barbie energy," she said. "Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork."

However, the "Barbie energy" ended up influencing the casting decisions for the movie, which includes a wide array of Barbies.

Barbie is directed by Lady Bird's Greta Gerwig, and is also set to star the likes of Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell, Michel Cera, Dua Lipa and Simu Liu.

Barbie is scheduled for cinemas on July 21.
