A Barbie movie that had been rumoured for years was finally confirmed to be a reality in 2019 when Robbie was revealed to be producing the movie, as well as starring as the famous Mattel doll Barbie herself.

Details about the movie's plot and format remain a secret but Robbie and her fellow producer Josey McNamara have promised that we can expect a big surprise.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, McNamara described the Barbie movie as "kind of our Everest" and said that it will bring us something very unique.

"You think you know what that movie is with Margot as Barbie, but Greta (Gerwig) and Noah (Baumbach) have subverted it, and we can't wait to get into that one," he said, praising the movie's co-writers.

Robbie added that although she isn't able to provide any details about the movie's premise or script, she can say that "whatever you're thinking, it's not that".

It's safe to say that we're pretty excited to be getting into a whole new kind of Barbie world.
