Margot Robbie to star as Maid Marian in Robin Hood spin-off

Robin Hood is back… sort of.

At least, Maid Marian will be, in a new Robin-Hood-inspired tale called ‘Marian’ that’s just been green lit with ‘Suicide Squad’ star Margot Robbie in the title role.

“It garnered a lot of interest,” explain Deadline. “But when the dust cleared it was Sony that nailed the project for producers Donald De Line and Amy Pascal by pre-empting the spec Marian for actress Margot Robbie to star.”

Margot Robbie is perhaps best known these days as Harley Quinn in the recent ‘Suicide Squad’ movie… but like her comic book counterpart, she’s not just a pretty face. Having starred in the likes of ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, ‘The Big Short’ and ‘Z for Zachariah’, Robbie is likely relishing the opportunity to flex her acting chops.

So what exactly is ‘Marian’ all about?

Well, following a conspiracy to conquer England in which Robin Hood (the love of her life) is killed before her very eyes, the titular Maid Marian decides to carry on fighting the good fight, leading her people into a pivotal war.

“She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom but will see her don the mantle of the man she loved,” they explain. “In the process, she rises as a legend herself.”

“Think Braveheart meets Game of Thrones.”

It’s currently unknown who will be joining Margot Robbie in ‘Marian’… or who will be directing it. But either way, it sounds as though it’s going to be one hell of a film.
