Mark Hamill Pays Teenage Cancer Patients A Surprise Visit

Prepare for Mark Hamill to become your favourite person in the world.

Because even though he’s been working gruelling hours on ’Star Wars 8′, he’s taken time out from his schedule to meet both 17-year-old Jamie Harkin, who is seriously ill and in remission from Hodgkins Lymphoma, and 2-year-old leukaemia patient Ciaran Murphy.

Jamie and Ciaran’s bravery transcends anything that Luke Skywalker, Rey or Finn have been through in the ‘Star Wars’ saga. But for one brief afternoon in Londonderry, Mark Hamill helped the pair and their families to forget about these issues by meeting them at a hotel in County Donegal.

Jamie Harkin took to Facebook to try and put the surprise visit into words, as he revealed that he’d just had “breakfast with Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill himself.”

“People say that you should never meet your idols, because you build them up in your head so much that when you do meet them, they are a let down, and to that, I say, ‘You’re wrong,’ Mark was everything I imagined him to be and then some,” Harkin continued.

Harkin admitted that he was overcome with emotion when he came face to face with Mark Hamill, which then provoked the actor to start weeping himself. Hamill then stayed for an hour and half talking to the pair and their families, too.

Head over to Jamie’s Journie’s Facebook page to see all the pictures and read his full version of the day. And if you don’t get shed a tear then you might as well pack up your things and immediately head over the to dark side.
