Mark Hamill Supports Dying Star Wars Fan’s Wish To See Rogue One Early

The Force is definitely with this ‘Star Wars’ fan’s dying wish…

Neil Hanvey from Oldham was told in April that he only had six to eight months to live. Clearly a massive ‘Star Wars’ fan, it’s his one wish to see the upcoming ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ before he dies.

And now Luke Skywalker himself has backed the campaign.

It may be a mere retweet, but Mark Hamill shared details of the campaign via Twitter.

And it’s starting to look as though this may actually happen.

The original call to action came from Amy Duncan – a nurse at St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford, where Neil Hanvey is currently receiving treatment. And since the original post on Facebook, the hashtag #RogueOneWish has spread like wildfire across social media.

“Fellow FB friends,” she said. “I need your help!! As most of you know, I work at St Michaels Hospice. We are currently caring for someone who doesn’t have very long left. :( There dying wish is to see the Star Wars movie, Rogue One. ‪#‎RogueOneWish. I need your help to push a campain to ‪#‎Disney to get ‪#‎Lucasfilm ‪#‎20thcenturyfox to allow him a ‘last wish’ advanced screening. #RogueOneWish pleaseeee help me to make this happen!!”

Since then, the #RogueOneWish has gone huge.

There’s even been a video posted online of the St Michael’s Hospice staff singing the ‘Star Wars’ theme tune in support of Neil Hanvey’s plight.

And it’s gaining all the right attention.

Industrial Light and Magic – the VFX company founded by George Lucas which works on every ‘Star Wars’ movie to date – has already reached out to Neil and his wife in a show of support.

And now Mark Hamill has retweeted their campaign.

Surely somebody at Disney and Lucasfilm is listening?

At the moment, Lucasfilm is unable to confirm whether or not Hanvey has been granted his own private ‘Rogue One’ screening… but fellow ‘Star Wars’ fan Daniel Fleetwood made the headlines last year when his wish was granted by J.J. Abrams to watch ‘Star Wars 7’ early.

He sadly passed away several days after watching the film.

Will Neil Hanvey get to see ‘Rogue One’ early? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But campaign supporters are definitely making the right noise – and the movement is gathering plenty of steam.

Let’s hope his wish is granted.

‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
