Mark Ruffalo Takes On Prime Minister David Cameron Over Fracking

The Hulk has picked a fight with an unlikely opponent – Prime Minister, David Cameron.

Mark Ruffalo has long been an opponent of fracking – the gathering of fossil fuels through the process of Hydraulic Fracturing. Considered a highly controversial technique due to its effect on the environment and local communities, fracking continues to be a hot topic.

And the big, green rage monster is firmly against the idea.

Appearing in The Guardian to discuss the topic, the 48-year-old Oscar-nominated ‘Avengers’ star appealed directly to the UK Prime Minister, to reconsider the use of fracking on UK soil.

“Mr Cameron you are making an enormous mistake, and it’s a legacy mistake, because there is no fracking that can be done safely,” he said. “Today we are at the precipice of a renewable energy revolution. This is the new economy. We had 200 countries from around the world all agree that it’s time to leave fossil fuels in the ground.”

This Tuesday, a planning inspector will hear energy company Cuadrilla’s appeal against a recent rejection of plans for exploratory fracking in west Lancashire. And with the UK’s first Tesla Powerwall installed earlier this week, it’s certainly good timing by Mark Ruffalo.

“This is where all new wealth is going to being created, this is where new jobs are to be created, and not only that but your people don’t want it,” he said. “You have already told them once before that if they didn’t want it you wouldn’t push them to take it. And you’re turning back on your word, sir. What is a politician if he is not credible?”

“So I would say to you, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to honour your people, to honour their will but also to take them into the renewable energy future of the world.”

Mark Ruffalo is considered the first famous face to back the anti-fracking cause… and has previously made similar appeals to US president Barack Obama, in attempts to convince the world leaders to ditch fossil fuels in favour of renewable energy.

Will Mark Ruffalo succeed? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… But if anyone can make a difference, it’s Bruce Banner.

After all, he’s been going green for a long time.
