Marvel Fans Appeal To 'Give Captain America A Boyfriend'

First it was ‘Frozen’s Princess Elsa, and now it’s Captain America.

A few weeks back, Disney fans keen to inject some LGBT balance into the Mouse House canon, spawned the hastag ’#GiveElsaAGirlfriend’.

Now the focus is to find Steve Rogers a gentleman lover to share his life with.

The hashtag ’#GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend’ was spawned on Twitter earlier this month, and now it’s starting to gain traction.

It was created by Jess Salerno, a student and Marvel fan who goes by the handle @thewntersoldier.

Speaking to Metro, she said: “I feel like it sucks that people in the LGBT community don’t get the representation that they deserve and it would be so amazing for something like Captain America or Marvel to be able to portray that. and maybe just let people know that it’s okay to be who you are. you know?

“You don’t have to be scared, especially to be able to have children grow up in that way, I feel like it would do amazing things for the future.”

It’s now becoming quite the hot topic among Marvel fans, who are questioning why it even should be an issue.

Others are suggesting possible suitors for the reanimated soldier, including one rather obvious option…

Others were less keen on that, however:

And many were quick to call Marvel out on Cap kissing Sharon Carter (played by Emily VanCamp in 'Captain America: Civil War’), the niece of his former squeeze Peggy Carter, which all felt quite, quite wrong.

Whatever happens, Captain America is about as likely to become gay or bisexual in the future Marvel movies as Tony Stark is likely to become humble and gracious.

But there’s always the fan fiction…
