Marvel showrunner to write new Transformers movie
The Transformers film franchise is in a bit of a limbo at the moment. The Michael Bay-directed films came to an end after The Last Knight disappointed critically and commercially, while Bumblebee came out to quite good reviews for its lighter tone, but didn't set the box office alight.
There's apparently a Bumblebee sequel, some sort of prequel, the next 'main' Transformers movie, and a Beast Wars film in the works. But we're talking about something else right now. We think.
We don't know what it will be about (except giant robots fighting), but it's signed up a director and a writer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charm City Kings' Angel Manuel Soto will get behind the director's chair, while Marvel's The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramirez will pen the script.
Apparently the film will set itself apart from the films that Bay directed, Bumblebee, and the next mainline entry (which Creed II's Stephen Caple Jr is meant to be helming), so it's anyone's guess as to where it will fit in with the wider franchise.
As well as Transformers, Hasbro has been looking to relaunch its GI Joe movie franchise with spin-off Snake Eyes, and Power Rangers, which it purchased a few years ago. Rather than follow on from the 2017 movie/Krispy Kreme commercial, they've called in The End of the F**king World creator Jonathan Entwistle to helm it.
