Marvel spin-off TV show ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ will air in the UK on Channel 4.

According to Broadcast Channel 4 won a "fierce" bidding war for the rights to the new show written by Joss Whedon.

No further details about when the show might air were given.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ starts in September over on US network ABC and stars Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, who reprises his role from the Marvel cinematic universe.

Last year the Joss Whedon-directed 'Avengers Assemble' became the third biggest movie of all time, so it comes as no surprise that there was keen interest in the broadcast rights.

Channel 4 won the battle however, so all Marvel fans have to do now is hope it gets a decent slot on their schedule.

Clark Gregg who not only returns from the films but from the dead as well, will be joined by ‘How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders, who played Agent Maria Hill last year’s superhero mash-up.

Quite how Agent Coulson returns from the grave is something we’ll have to wait to find out in the first episode, directed by Joss Whedon.

The show sees Coulson lead a young group of agents as they investigate super-human goings-on. He will be joined as a regular by Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge.
