Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ has officially started filming.
Chadwick Boseman is back as Black Panther – Marvel’s awesome black superhero who debuted in ‘Avengers: Civil War’. And with unofficial reports that production was beginning to ramp up, it looks as though we’ve finally got some confirmation – ‘Black Panther’ is now officially entering production.
“Marvel Studios announced today that production has begun on Black Panther,” states the official press release. “Black Panther joins Marvel Studios slate of releases in its Phase 3 commitment to introduce film audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favourites over the course of four years and nine films.”
Here’s what we know so far:
Black Panther started filming today
It’s official – ‘Black Panther’ is in production. It’s been rumoured for the last week or so, with many fans speculating that ‘Black Panther’ would begin filming in Atlanta this week. But now the folks at Marvel have confirmed it.
Of course, we kinda knew as much already…
Many of the actors associated with ‘Black Panther’ began reporting to the location over the last week, with leaked set images surfacing of the characters on set and in their costumes.
But while many fans assumed that cameras had already started rolling, it looks as though that’s not that case. In fact, the official start date is today, 26 January 2017.
So who is in the movie?
Black Panther is back… and so is his nemesis
It wouldn’t be ‘Black Panther’ without the man himself… so obviously Chadwick Boseman is back on set. And with numerous cast details confirmed in recent months, we already had a good idea of who to expect. But it now looks as though some rumoured additions are here, too.
That’s right – Andy Serkis is back as the villainous Klaw.
Of course, it’s not just villains joining the fray. Here’s who’s confirmed so far:
- Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther
- Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger
- Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia
- Danai Gurira as Okoye
- Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross
- Angela Bassett as Ramonda
- Forest Whitaker as Zuri
- Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue
Additional cast includes:
- Letitia Wright
- Winston Duke
- Florence Kasumba
- Sterling K. Brown
- John Kani
Black Panther gets an official synopsis
That’s right – ‘Black Panther’ finally has an official synopsis.
“Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War’, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.”
Not an awful lot to go on, then. I mean, let’s face it – we all assumed that Black Panther would be returning to Wakanda… and this pretty much confirms it. But as for actual, tangible plot details, it all remains a mystery. Except that Ulysses Klaue is somehow involved.
But what’s it really all about? We’ll have to wait and see.
‘Black Panther’ heads to cinemas on 9 February 2018.
