The Marvels' cats used one film set as their litter box

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta has revealed that one set of the film was used as a litter box by cats.

The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as they swap places with each other, with the group teaming up to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Also returning is Danvers’ pet cat Goose, and DaCosta revealed exclusively to Digital Spy that their furry friends treated the set a little too much like home, saying: “I love Goose as a character. It’s funny, we had two cats who played her in the film, Nemo and Tango.

“One looked angry all the time, but was really nice, [whilst] the other one looked nice [but] was angry all the time. It was really amazing watching them jump on someone’s shoulder, press the button.

“There was one set we had – that was basically sandy – [that] felt like a giant litter box. They were like: ‘we’re gonna do whatever we want here.’ That was one of the more difficult days, where they were like: ‘there’s a litter box here, why would we do work?’ But it was also really fun. When they got it right, the whole crew was like: ‘yes!’”

DaCosta, who previously directed Little Woods and Candyman, also spoke about the cast of the film, recently revealing that Larson and Parris had improvised during a key scene in the feature.

“There is an intensely emotional scene between Captain Marvel and Monica in the film,” she teased. “We were rehearsing, improvising stuff and there were beautiful, heart-rendering things that they were able to create and say to each other that ended in the final film.”

The Marvels will be released in cinemas on November 10.
