Frank Grillo has admitted that he's no longer interested in portraying The Punisher.

Grillo, who played Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in the MCU, has previously shared his desire to put on the skull suit to play The Punisher. However, in a recent interview with Uproxx, he said that he isn't looking to step on Jon Bernthal's toes.

Bernthal, of course, played Frank Castle in the axed Marvel TV show The Punisher.

"That's not in my trajectory now," Grillo said. "It's not where my life is taking me anymore, and my friend Jonny Bernthal did an amazing job. My life and what I want to do is much different now, and I think I'm outgrowing that whole kind-of Marvel and superhero thing.

"Joe [Carnahan] and I have a really good little [production] company in War Party, and we're concentrating on action thrillers that are responsibly budgeted, and we're very busy, knock wood, and we'll go down the path of creating our own material and content and having a good time."

Meanwhile, Grillo revealed last year that he's still contracted to five more MCU movies, despite his villainous character Crossbones meeting his maker in Captain America: Civil War.

On a possible return, he noted: "You know what? I got five more movies that I'm obligated to do for Marvel if they ever call me. So who knows, man?

"Maybe I'll be Captain America after [Anthony] Mackie. I'll be a middle-aged Captain America. A middle-aged, Italian Captain America. Think about that."
