Marvel’s The Punisher Spin-Off Series On Its Way To Netflix

It was only a matter of time after the murmurings last but now it’s official: Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’ is coming to Netflix.

After the huge success for Marvel’s other properties that have made their way to Netflix as a series - including two seasons of ‘Daredevil’ and a début series of ‘Jessica Jones’ - ‘The Punisher’ is set to join them.

Entertainment Weekly revealed the news that Jon Bernthal (’The Walking Dead’, The Wolf of Wall Street’) will take on the role, after already playing the character in ‘Daredevil’s’ second season. Bernthal will reprise the vigilante character of Frank Castle for a full season, and it looks set to be very dark and most certainly violent.

It continues a trend of Marvel shows produced for Netflix which can be far more gritty and explicit than any of their cinematic ventures allow. Although rumours were circulating several months ago when TV Line shared the news a show was in development, it’s only now that it’s been officially confirmed.

This takes the number of Marvel-Netflix collaborations to six - they’re also bringing a ‘Luke Cage’ series starring Mike Colter to the streaming service, as well as Iron Fist’ which will be led by ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Finn Jones. Word is they also intend to unite all of these heroes for an epic series by the name of ‘The Defenders’.

So not only are Marvel keeping busy on the big screen with the likes of ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Doctor Strange’, but they’re extremely active on the small one, too. Should their upcoming ventures be as well received as the ones already on Netflix, then it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a lot more content in our homes.
