Marvel's X-Men movie gets huge update20th Century Studios

Marvel’s new X-Men movie has received a huge update, with the project reportedly landing its first screenwriter.

As per Deadline, Michael Lesslie is purportedly in talks to pen the script for the film, which is still in early development.

Lesslie’s credits include Justin Kurzel’s 2015 retelling of Macbeth, Park Chan-Wook’s spy series The Little Drummer Girl and most recently the prequel to The Hunger Games series, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

Lesslie would be the first creative individual to join the project, with cast and director details yet to be finalised. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, is onboard as a producer.

Though casting details are yet to be announced, Patrick Stewart revealed that he would be open to reprising his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X from the Fox series of films, hinting that it could happen.

“It is a possibility,” he said. “Hugh Jackman and I looked upon Logan as being our farewell, given that I died in that film. Although I've been told I've actually died several times already. Know that, and you could get lucky.”

While Stewart is open to returning, X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix star Alexandra Shipp revealed that she wouldn’t reprise her role as Ororo Munroe/Storm. She explained that she is now in a “different place” in her life and career.

“No, I'm not interested [in returning]” she said. “What I love about the career that I've been able to form is that I can play many different things. At this point, I feel like I've done what I needed to do with Storm.

“I feel that there are other women who can take on that role and really kill it, and I support that. But for me, I just feel like I'm at a different place in my life,” added the star, who has also appeared in Barbie and Anyone But You.

There is currently no release date for Marvel's X-Men reboot.
