Series two of The Masked Singer UK is well underway, with viewers at home trying to figure out who is behind Blob’s costume.

Blob has performed twice so far, first singing “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and then “Word Up” by Cameo in his second performance.

But while some of the contestants’ identities are hotly debated by The Masked Singer fans, the viewers are near unanimous on who they think Blob is.

With his distinctive voice, fans are convinced that Lenny Henry is performing as Blob.

A number of clues have been given which fans believe align with the comedian and Comic Relief co-founder. Blob said he was named after a doctor, something Henry – whose real first name is Lenworth – has revealed in previous interviews.

In the second episode, Blob said that he was “a bit of an academic”, which Henry was when he played a teacher on BBC drama Hope and Glory. He also became the chancellor of Birmingham City University in 2016, and has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Nottingham Trent University.

Blob further revealed that he had played with a lot of his musical heroes to large audiences, leading the judges to speculate that he could be a comedian who had played at benefit concerts alongside famous singers.

Some viewers have accused the judges of deliberately ignoring clues about Blob.

“Blob might as well sing ‘I’m Lenny Henry’,” one viewer joked.

“Davina [McCall] and Jonathan [Ross] are not saying it’s Lenny Henry on purpose when you know for sure they def know that it’s him, we all know they go way back those three,” another speculated.

“If Blob isn't Lenny Henry I will eat my hat,” one commenter wrote.

During the episode on 23 January, judge Jonathan Ross noticed the names “Matt”, “Lucas” and “Andy” among the clues for Blob. He suggested that they pointed towards Matt Lucas’s character Andy from Little Britain, meaning that Blob could be none other than David Walliams.

In the 30 January episode, Blob hinted that they’ve performed William Shakespeare plays at The Globe Theatre.

The bookies are pretty sure that Henry is Blob, however, with Ladbrokes listing him with odds of 1/3. Romesh Ranganathan is in second place at 4/1, while Richard Osman has odds of 8/1.
