Massachusetts Officers on Boater Whale Regulation Check Get Perfect Greeting From 'Locals'

Officers with the Massachusetts Environmental Police said they were treated to a welcome from the “locals” of Massachusetts Bay, posting video of a whale breaching during their compliance patrol on August 21.

The department said officers were “ensuring boater compliance with whale regulations” at the Gerry E Studds/Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary when they “received a warm welcome from the locals” on Monday afternoon.

Stellwagen Bank, 842 square miles of protected water, is one of the world’s premier whale watching destinations, according to the NOAA. Credit: Massachusetts Environmental Police via Storyful
