McAvoy to play The Crow?

X-Men star set to play the role immortalised by Brandon Lee, according to reports

James McAvoy is reportedly circling the role of 'The Crow' in a reboot of the 90s comic book adaptation.

The star of 'X-Men: First Class', and the forthcoming 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', is said to be mulling the role, according to film site Bloody Disgusting.

The long-in-gestation project has had a number of actors and directors attached.

Initially Mark Wahlberg was in the frame, and then Bradley Cooper, while '28 Weeks Later' helmsman Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was to direct.

Now it's F. Javier Gutierrez set to direct, with a script from Jesse Wigutow, who is also writing the sequel to 'Tron: Legacy'.

The film was first released in 1994, based on James O'Barr's 1989 comic book about a man who returns from the dead to avenge his and his girlfriend's murders.

It was directed by Alex Proyas, who went on the direct the likes of 'I, Robot', and starred Brandon Lee, the son of Bruce Lee.

Tragically, Lee died after an accidental shooting on the set of the film.
