And it includes the return of beloved characters for the first time in 25 years.

If there’s one thing McDonald’s customers go crazy for, it’s the McDonaldland characters. Okay, it’s us; we’re the customers who are crazy about the McDonald’s characters.

Many of us never really got closure after some of the McDonaldland characters were suddenly discontinued in the early 2000s. So, of course, seeing Grimace and the Hamburglar get another chance to shine is exciting for us. Sure, Ronald McDonald is great, but no one can steal a hamburger like the “robble robbler” in stripes.

Recently, McDonald’s has started leaning into its nostalgia play—especially after it brought back the beloved Boo Buckets last year. Since then, we’ve been gifted a new Hamburglar commercial, a Grimace birthday celebration, and even a collaboration with Crocs that features those characters, plus Birdie.

And, don’t worry, McDonald’s isn’t done yet. After last year's success, McDonald’s is bringing back its adult Happy Meal—but, this time, in a meal with new collectible toys that look pretty familiar.

McDonald’s Brings Back McNugget Buddies for New Meal

McDonald’s is teaming up with Kerwin Frost, a New York-born artist, to release the Kerwin Frost Box. The new meal will include your choice of 10 Chicken McNuggets or a Big Mac, fries, a soft drink, and the return of the McNugget Buddies collectibles.

The original McNugget Buddies were life-sized McNuggets that were part of The Happy Meal gang in the early McDonald’s commercials. Mickey D’s introduced 10 McNugget Buddy collectible toys as part of a limited-time Happy Meal in 1988 (which are actually worth a pretty penny now). But, we haven’t seen a real-life McNugget Buddy in more than 25 years. Until now.

The Kerwin Frost Box will feature six McNugget Buddies, new to the McDonaldland universe—and more specifically, Frost Way, where these Buddies live. The collectibles include Kerwin Frost, Don Bernice, Uptown Moe, Waffutu, BRRRICK, and Darla McNugget Buddies—each with their own fun backstory.

The Kerwin Frost McNugget looks similar to the real-life Frost who designed the new Buddies and is the mayor of Frost Way. Don Bernice is the “wise stylist” fashion designer, Uptown Moe is the “neighborhood hero,” Waffutu is the positive “curious optimist,” BRRRICK is the adventurous “cool guy,” and Darla is the “dreamer” who runs the local McDonald’s and wants to be a superstar.

Each Kerwin Frost Box will include one of the six McNugget Buddies—meaning, just like regular Happy Meal toys, it’s a fun game to collect them all.

“With last year’s Cactus Plant Flea Market Box, we unlocked the childlike joy of opening a Happy Meal box for fans of all ages,” said Tariq Hassan, McDonald’s USA Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer. “Fans told us they wanted to celebrate that quintessential childhood experience again.”

McDonald’s Kerwin Frost Box will be available at participating restaurants nationwide beginning Dec. 11 while supplies last—and, if the Grimace shake taught us anything, it’s that they won’t last as long as you hope.

The McNugget Buddies aren’t just coming back to restaurants, either. Kerwin Frost and McDonald’s are teaming up to release new merch featuring the McNugget Buddies and other vintage pieces—plus unique Fry Guy shoes (like the ones seen on the Kerwin Buddy). The merch line will also be available while supplies last beginning Dec. 11 on Kerwin Frost's site.

With the McNugget Buddies back, we don’t want to say we manifested this, but we did publicly ask Mickey D’s for their return back in June. So, actually, you’re welcome.
