Yahoo Movies How I Met Your Mother is finally getting a spin-off with Hilary Duff
The long awaited How I Met Your Mother spin-off is finally on its way, with a huge casting in the lead role.
Disney Channel legend and star of Lizzie McGuire and Younger, Hilary Duff has been cast as the lead in How I Met Your Father, which is set to air on Hulu.
Duff will star as Sophie, who, much like Ted Mosby, is telling her son the story of how she met his father. The story begins in 2021 when Sophie and her friends are trying to figure out life and navigate love in the dating app era.

The series comes from This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, while Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, who created How I Met Your Mother, will executive produce the series alongside Duff.
Speaking about the role to Deadline, Duff said: "I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie.
"As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius.

"Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there."
It's been a long road to getting the green light for the How I Met Your Mother spin-off. Back in 2014, Thomas and Bays wrote a pilot for CBS starring Greta Gerwig that wasn’t picked up.
Two and a half years later, Aptaker and Berger wrote a new version of the story before they were promoted to co-showrunners of This Is Us and had to drop out.
