Michael Bay Treated Kate Beckinsale Terribly During Pearl Harbor

Kate Beckinsale has opened up about working with Michael Bay on ‘Pearl Harbor’ and the director doesn’t come across well at all.

During her appearance on the Graham Norton Show, via CBS News, last Friday the 42-year-old actress told a number of stories from her time working on the 2001 blockbuster that highlighted why it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

At first Beckinsale told the host, “I don’t think I fit the type of actress Michael Bay had met before. I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren’t bigger than my head and I wasn’t blonde.”

After that barb, Beckinsale admitted that even though she’d just given birth to her daughter Lily Mo Sheen before production was to begin, she was informed that she’d need to lose weight. That’s despite the fact that she though her ‘Pearl Harbor’ character, a 1940s nurse, wouldn’t do the same.

“I’d just had my daughter and had just lost weight but was told that if I got the part, I’d have to work out,” Beckinsale explained. “And I just didn’t understand why a 1940s nurse would do that.”

Things only got worse during the press tour, when after praising Beckinsale’s ‘Pearl Harbor’ co-stars Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett for their acting prowess, Michael Bay revealed that Kate was only cast because she “wasn’t so attractive that she would alienate the female audience.”

Kate Beckinsale’s comments underline just how hard it can be for actresses to work in Hollywood and the ridiculous demands and requests that come their way.

It also proves that Michael Bay is a bit of a pillock, too. Something that could probably have been deemed from watching any of his movies.
