The last we saw of Michael Fassbender’s evil android David in ‘Prometheus’, he was a bit on the dismembered side.

And in the forthcoming sequel, ‘Alien: Covenant’, he’ll be reprising not only that role – presumably rebuilt in some way – but also the role of another robot called Walter.

And while he’s not letting much else slip about the plot, and how Walter will be weaved into the action, he’s explained that they’re very much droids of a different stripe.

“I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish,” he told ComingSoon.

“David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot.

“Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”

The film wrapped in July this year after shooting in Milford Sound, New Zealand, with some additional filming going on at Leavesden Studios in November.

Fassbender is joined on the bill by ‘Fantastic Beasts’ star Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Billy Crudup, with Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce also thought to be reprising roles.

The movie should begin to link up more closely with the original ‘Alien’ movies, as the crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise on their way to a remote planet.

However, the world turns out to be dark and dangerous, seemingly inhabited solely by Fassbender’s android David, after surviving – though barely – the Prometheus expedition.

The film is due out in May, 2017.
