Michael J. Fox Gets First REAL Pair Of Back To The Future Power Lace Sneakers

It’s taken a while, but Marty McFly has finally got himself a pair of those sneakers with the power laces.

Yesterday – Back To The Future Day, for anyone living in a hermetically-sealed pouch, after the date Marty went forward to in BTTF part two – Michael J. Fox was gifted the very first pair of working Nike Mags.

Fox tweeted a picture of himself wearing the hi-tops, and then a short video of the laces tying – complete with motor noise and front lights.

He also posted a hand-written letter from veteran Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield, which proclaimed that he would be receiving the very first pair, after it was confirmed by CNBC journalist Sara Eisen that the shoes had arrived in New York.

“This is major: A source at Nike confirms to me the first pair of self-lacing Nike Mag shoes are in NYC. $nke #backtothefuture #mag,” she tweeted.

Hatfield also confirmed that the plan is to produce more working pairs next year in aid of Fox’s Michael J. Fox Foundation charity.

It’s not the first time that the shoes have been made – just the first time they’ve had working power laces.

Nike released 1500 pairs in 2011, also in aid of the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

In the letter to Fox, which also features a hand-drawn portrait of the star, Hatfield wrote: “In addition to your personal pair, we’re creating more pairs for support in aid of the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2016.

“We hope that the combined effort will raise even more than the $9.4 million collected in 2011 and contribute in some way to eliminating Parkinson’s Disease in our lifetime.”

Nike has held a patent on the technology since 2010.
