Michael Caine has addressed recent comments about retirement saying he has no intentions of quitting his acting career just yet.

The 88-year-old actor shared a post on Twitter that simply read "I haven't retired and not a lot of people know that".

Headlines began circulating on Friday after the star appeared on Kermode and Mayo's Film Review on BBC Radio 5 Live.

The Hollywood veteran said he was giving up acting after his role in the upcoming movie Best Sellers.

"Funnily enough, it has turned out to be my last part, really. Because I haven’t worked for two years, and I have a spine problem which affects my leg, so I can’t walk very well," said the Italian Job star.

Michael Caine has been in over 130 movies over his 60 years in the business.

"And I also wrote a book, a couple of books, which were published and successful. So, I’m now not an actor; I’m a writer. Which is lovely because as an actor, you have to get up at half past six in the morning and go to the studio. As a writer, you can start writing without leaving the bed!"

However, in a statement to Variety, the following day, Caine confirmed the opposite, saying: "Regarding retirement, I’ve spent over 50 years getting up at 6 a.m. to make movies, and I’m not getting rid of my alarm clock!"

In his upcoming comedy-drama, Caine plays a cranky author who is forced to do a book tour in order to save his publishing boutique.

Directed by Lina Roessler, Best Sellers also stars Parks and Recreation’s Aubrey Plaza, Grey’s Anatomy’s Scott Speedman, Ellen wong, Cary Elwes and Veronica Ferres.
