Fast and Furious star Michelle Rodriguez has suggested she will be quitting acting to focus on writing screenplays. What does this mean for her return as Dom's girlfriend Letty in 'Fast and Furious 6'?

The tough girl of the action franchise was killed off in 'Fast and Furious', the fourth entry in the franchise but Letty didn't let a mysterious gunman shooting her after a spectacular crash keep her down. Rodriguez returns in 'Fast and Furious 6' but if the new trailer is anything to go by, life has not gotten any slower or less furious.

Fast Five and Six appearances

In the biggest surprise of Fast Five, a post-credits sequence revealed that Dom's presumed dead girlfriend was actually in fact, far from dead. Lost and Avatar star Rodriguez looked all set to reprise her role as the toughest girl in the franchise in Fast and Furious 6 but in what capacity it was unclear.

With more details of Fast and Furious 6 emerging, Letty appears to be not only on the wrong side of the law this time, but also on the wrong side of old flame Vin Diesel and his crew of reformed road racers.

Franchise future

In an interview with Cosmopolitan for Latinas, Rodriguez spilled the news that she got "into this business to write". Ever since her outstanding debut in 'Girlfight' back in 2000, she has taken numerous roles in film and television but has never turned her hand to writing.

However Rodriguez insists that "The truth is I'm about to say goodbye to acting for a minute and move behind the camera." It's been a long wait for the star with her acting breakthrough coming 13 years ago. She says "now I'm ready, so that means I have to do the cut-off. I'll go into the mountains, and bye-bye everybody."

Rodriguez is already at work on a pair of screenplays. One is for a family audience whereas the other sounds more like Harmony Korine's recent 'Spring Breakers'. Featuring four girls on the run from the law after a jail break, it could potentially be an opportunity for Rodriguez to write a car chase or two perhaps.

What about Letty?

With Rodriguez putting her occasionally troubled past behind her and promising to take to the hills to put pen to paper instead of pedal to metal, where does this leave the future of her Fast and Furious character. The next installment in the franchise is due in 2014 and The Rock and others are already confirmed to return with rumours of Jason Statham joining the franchise.

If Michelle Rodriguez is quitting acting, does this mean Letty will have to be hastily written out of the seventh entry or is it safe to deduce that despite her shocking return, the character may not survive Fast and Furious 6.

With Letty suffering from amnesia and working with Luke Evan's big bad Owen Shaw and the brand new trailer showing Letty literally flying into trouble, only time will tell if she can make it through this film unscathed.

What do you think of Letty's chances of survival?
