It’s so damn hot right, it’s definitely paddling pool season. That is unless you’re lucky enough to live near a beach or have your own pool.

Actress, writer and producer Mindy Kaling falls into the latter category – and to celebrate she’s thrown on her bikini (well bikinis) and taken to Instagram. But her posts are not all about the sunshine. She’s out to remind us that body shaming is not cool no matter the season.

Her Instagram post caption reads: “IDK who needs to hear this but… WEAR A BIKINI IF YOU WANT TO WEAR A BIKINI. You don’t have to be a size 0. Have a great summer.”

She then goes on to talk in a video about how she learnt to be body positive from visiting her friend in Hawaii growing up “ where everyone wears bikinis because it’s Hawaii.”

The diminutive actress looks stunning in the two different bikinis in the post. But then Kaling knows her fashion. While filming her hit sitcom The Mindy Project she worked closely with the show’s Emmy-nominated costume designer, Salvador Perez, to curate her character’s quirky and colourful wardrobe.

In one episode she even wore a dress, which would later been seen on the Duchess of Cambridge!

Kaling’s been having an eventful year. Her new film with Emma Thompson Late Night has been a summer hit and her Four Weddings & A Funeral TV spin-off is due to hit Hulu at the end of July.

And now there are rumours that she may be in talks to develop a Pakistani-American superhero for Marvel. But don’t get too excited yet. Kaling herself tweeted to say she “had no information” on the project.

Until then she’s got a Netflix series to develop, a film to write with Priyanka Chopra and a pool to keep her cool. That’ll get her through the summer at least.
