Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One has just confirmed its final runtime ahead of its release in July.

Fans of Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt better be prepared for a long ride, as the film from director and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie will clock in at 2 hours and 36 minutes without credits (via IGN).

This means the upcoming instalment will be the longest in the action franchise, inching ahead of 2018's Mission: Impossible Fallout, which runs for 2 hours and 27 minutes.

Ethan Hunt's next outing will be a two-parter, with the first instalment dropping in July and Dead Reckoning Part Two coming to the big screen in 2024.

In Part One, Hunt and his IMF team will need to stop a deadly weapon from ending up in the wrong hands. Alongside Cruise, who's rumoured to be bowing out from the franchise in Part Two, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames and Vanessa Kirby reprise their roles from previous chapters.

Among the newcomers, Marvel's Hayley Atwell is set to star as Grace, with Esai Morales portraying baddie Gabriel and Guardians of the Galaxy's Pom Klementieff playing one of his villainous associates.

While it isn't clear at present whether Cruise will officially exit the franchise after this two-part adventure, it seems there's a possibility the saga could continue after Dead Reckoning.

"Look, we're still shooting [Dead Reckoning Part Two] and there's any number of ways that that story could play out," McQuarrie recently teased.

"When you're watching Mission: Impossible, and watching the team go through these adventures, you're having some sense of what it's like to make a Mission: Impossible movie."

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One will be released in UK cinemas on July 11 and in US cinemas on July 12. Dead Reckoning Part Two is set to be released on June 28, 2024.
