Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie has confirmed on Instagram the return of a classic character from the very first movie in Dead Reckoning Part Two.

Following the news that Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny) will be back, it has now been revealed that we will be seeing CIA agent William Donloe (Rolf Saxon) as well.

Fans will remember that iconic scene in from the 1996 movie where Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt was suspended from the ceiling as he tried to break into a CIA database.

Well, Donloe oversaw the vault, and after the heist he was relocated to Alaska by IMF director Kittridge. Filming pictures from a snowy location for the 2024 sequel suggests we may be visiting Alaska and consequently Donloe.

As well as returning characters, Dead Reckoning Part Two will also see the addition of a number of new cast members, including Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham, Ozark's Janet McTeer and Parks and Recreation's Nick Offerman.

The film will be the eighth and final movie in the long-running action franchise, with its predecessor Dead Reckoning Part One set for release this summer.

Speaking to Digital Spy in December, franchise newcomer Hayley Atwell explained the delay of the first of the two-part conclusion, having filmed all the way back in September 2020.

"Well, that's not by any accident," she said. "Mr Cruise knows exactly what he's doing. He wants these films to absolutely galvanise the audience into just being totally transported. And we won't stop until it's ready, and it delivers.

"Tom is very much an advocate of the audience being... this is for the audience. This is to delight them, and to thrill them, and to move them."

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One currently has a scheduled release date of July 14, 2023. Part Two will follow on June 28, 2024.
