Hold onto your hats: the first teaser trailer for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is here.

The trailer for the seventh film in the Mission: Impossible franchise shows Tom Cruise gearing back up to slide (and roll, and dodge) into the shoes of ultra-secret operative Ethan Hunt.

From the looks of it, he’ll be joined by a host of familiar faces, with Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Ving Rhames will all heading back to the big screen.

There will also be some newcomers, including Marvel star Hayley Atwell as character Grace, and Esai Morales as a mysterious villain.

Announcing the trailer on social media, Cruise commented: “It’s all led up to this.”

In the two minute clip, we’re treated to a lot of upcoming action scenes, featuring Cruise and the team riding across a desert, striding across a deserted square in Venice and engaging in more than a few dangerous-looking car chases across various cities.

We’re also treated to glimpses of some jaw-dropping stunts – Rebecca Ferguson (presumably reprising her role as antihero and fellow agent Ilsa Foust) sword-fighting on a bridge in Venice, anyone? Or how about the scene in the final shot of the trailer, which shows Cruise riding a motorbike off a cliff?

The trailer also shows a tense meeting between Cruise and Henry Czerny, who appeared way back in the original Mission: Impossible film in 1996.

Reprising his role as Eugene Kittridge, the IMF director, the pair face off as Kittridge says: “Your days of fighting for the so-called greater good are over.”

He adds: “This is our chance to control the truth, the concepts of right and wrong for everyone for centuries to come. You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist. It never did. You need to pick a side.” Intriguing stuff.

Unfortunately, if the trailer has got you fired up to see the film, you may be in for a bit of a wait: Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One won’t be in cinemas until July 14, 2023.

At least we’ll have the trailer - and the previous six films - to watch on repeat until then…
