MMA fans are NOT happy with what Meryl Streep said in her Golden Globes speech
Donald Trump isn’t the only one who isn’t happy about Meryl Streep’s barnstorming Golden Globes speech… fans of mixed martial arts are bit upset too.
On Sunday night, in a broadside against the president-elect’s anti-immigration rhetoric, the actress warned that if the US starts expelling foreigners, all that will be left to watch will be ‘football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts’.
Suffice to say, it’s not gone down all that well.
#MerylStreep is a gifted actor, but to deny mixed martial artists are both gifted athletes AND artists is naive and offensive. #MMA #UFC

Meryl Streep how ignorant are u. In your speech you stated "Disrespect invites disrespect" yet you ignorantly disrespected an entire sport.

The biggest irony ever: Streep lecturing about bullying while bullying people who like "football and MMA." #GoldenGlobes

Meryl Streep has contempt for MMA because she knows pro wrestling is the one true art

Even UFC president Dana White has got involved in the row.
“It’s not going to be everybody’s thing. And the last thing in the world I expect is an uppity, 80-year old lady to be in our demographic and love mixed martial arts,” he said of Streep, 67.
“Of course it’s an art. I mean, these fighters, the men and women, are so talented. They train their whole lives to become the best in the world. And the people who get into the UFC are the elite of the elite.
“To say something stupid like that is like saying she’s not a talented actress, which she is. She’s a very talented actress.”
Meanwhile, president of leading MMA promoter Bellator, Scott Coker, also gave his two cents, but did so while holding an olive branch.
As a martial artist and an MMA promoter, here is my open letter and #Bellator170 invite to the very talented #MerylStreep #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/zostN22RAK

So far, Ms Streep has not commented on the matter (nor as yet accepted the kind offer), but MMA fighter Lauren Murphy did point out:
Meryl Streep is probably not reading your tweets, y'all.
