Mockingjay seeks new director

Production of third in Hunger Games trilogy speeding ahead

The producers of the 'Hunger Games' series are seeking a new director for the third instalment of the trilogy, in order to keep up with their rapid production schedule.

It will mean that each film will have a different director so that they can all be released in super-quick time.

Francis Lawrence, who directed 'I Am Legend' and 'Constantine', is currently working on the second film in the franchise, 'Catching Fire', but is likely to still be in the post-production phase when the final films begin their pre-production.

Meanwhile, Gary Ross, who directed the first film was canned due to the production schedule of the second film, which means there will be just a year between each release.

Producer Nina Jacobson is now looking for someone to fit the bill with the writer of the books, Suzanne Collins.

It was announced last week that the final film, 'Mockingjay', will be released in two parts.

'Catching Fire' is due out on November 22, 2013, the first part of 'Mockingjay' on November 21, 2014, and the second on November 22, 2015.

Elsewhere, more rumours are emerging about new cast members for 'Catching Fire'.

British actor Sam Claflin is thought to be the top choice to play Finnick Odair, while Amanda Plummer is rumoured to be playing Wiress and Tony Shaloub, Beetee. 'The Fighter's Melissa Leo is also said to be signing up to play Mags.
