Morbius star Adria Arjona has joined Andy Garcia in the upcoming Father of the Bride remake.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, while also revealing that this iteration of the narrative is being told through the prism of a sprawling Cuban-American family – Arjona will play the bride.

Gaz Alazraki is directing from a script written by Matt Lopez.

Meanwhile, almost two years ago, Arjona caught up with Digital Spy to preview her heavily delayed Marvel flick Morbius, which has been pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Tonally it's really character-driven. It's both really fun but also really grounded and dark. You follow three characters throughout the story," she explained.

"Not a lot of people know about Morbius, so it's going to be really cool to introduce Morbius as a character, who is so interesting."

The Puerto Rican star managed to avoid sharing any spoilers, though, as she joked: "I'll get my face CGI-ed out of the whole film – it'll be a completely different actress!"

Morbius features Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto – seen most recently in crime thriller The Little Things – in the titular role of Dr Michael Morbius, a biologist who attempts to cure his rare blood disorder with vampire bat DNA.

This is a comic book adaptation after all, so things don't quite go according to plan for the doctor, and he soon finds himself craving the red stuff.
