Mortal Kombat movie sequel teases first look at The Boys star
Mortal Kombat 2 filming has started – and to mark the occasion, producer Todd Garner has uploaded a photo of the cast together at a restaurant.
Among returning faces, the photo also features The Boys and Dredd actor Karl Urban, who is joining the sequel as Johnny Cage.
The character is one of the most important and iconic in the video game fighting franchise. A movie star with a lot of martial arts training (and some legendary warriors as his ancestors), Johnny fights against supernaturally-powered characters with Shadow Kick.
Johnny's look in the Mortal Kombat games usually has him wearing shares, with either blonde or brown hair. In the photo, we see that Urban might be doing a bit of both, with the tips of his hair dyed blonde.

The character's appearance in the sequel was teased in the 2021 film, through a film where Lewis Tan's Cole Young heads to Los Angeles to look for Johnny.
Other MK characters joining the sequel include Kitana and Jade, who are being played by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina co-stars Adeline Rudolph and Tati Gabrielle, respectively.
Over on the game side of the franchise, Mortal Kombat 1 was recently announced to release later this year.
The game is a soft reboot of sorts, as the character Liu Kang attained the power of godhood in Mortal Kombat 11 and used that power to essentially reset the timeline, giving the developers carte blanche to feature new versions of all the characters.
Johnny Cage will be one of the playable characters, with paid downloadable content including a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for the character, as a reference to the actor who inspired him in the first place.
Mortal Kombat 2, the film, does not have a release date at the moment. Mortal Kombat 1, the game, will release on September 19.
