'Mortdecai' is based on the comedy-thriller novels by Kyril Bonfiglioli, which centre on a dashing art dealer and his manservant Jock Strapp, played here by Paul Bettany.
Depp is affecting an English accent and a quite luxurious ‘tache in this first look at the film, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn, and Jeff Goldblum.
Here’s the official synopsis: Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part-time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumoured to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

There have been four Mortdecai books to date, with the last, ‘The Great Moustache Mystery’, published posthumously in 1999.
Depp is in need of a hit after ‘Lone Ranger’ and ‘Transcendence’ both flopped at the box office, so could this broad comedy be the ticket?
We’ll find out when the film is released on 30 January, 2015.
