While the term “meal prep” may strike fear into the hearts of those of us who are on the lazier side, there is nothing easier than this smoothie hack for preparing your breakfasts ahead of time.
In The Know’s Phoebe Zaslav doesn’t think you have to sacrifice health to keep things moving in the mornings. Whether you’re not a morning person or you’re just too busy to think about breakfast, this seriously is the easiest time-saver.
What you’ll need:
Ziploc bags — one for every smoothie you’re making, so if you’re planning ahead of the week, pick out five or seven
Whatever fruits and greens you prefer
Milk, juice or water
Any dry ingredients you like — flaxseed, coconut or protein powder
“For each individual smoothie, you will have 1 1/2 cups of fruit, 1 cup of greens and 2 cups of the liquid of your choice,” Phoebe says. “In my opinion, this is the best smoothie ratio. Dry ingredients are optional, but whatever you choose you can eyeball.”
To prep, simply add all the fruit, greens and dry ingredients into a Ziploc bag. For Phoebe’s smoothie, she chose bananas, strawberries, blackberries, spinach and flaxseed.
“Place these bags in your freezer and keep them there at least overnight, and voila,” Phoebe says. “All you have to do the next day — or whenever you want your smoothie — is add the contents to your blender and add the 1 cup of liquid. Blend, and you’re good to go.”
It’s so easy to pack together that if you’re planning days ahead, you’ve already got your breakfast set for the next week.
“I honestly wish I started doing this a long time ago,” Phoebe says. “But never too late to start making your life easier, right?”
